OK - here's what should be easy to do - make a template that detects Wikipedia links in the "See also" area, and automatically puts a warning about the links to Wikipedia being a risk and about the bias, etc.

See how :Template:Wikipedia, which is transcluded at User:Lysander/Test, works. You get a link to Wikipedia that looks like an external link. The downside is that nofollow will presumably be applied to it, but you may consider that a feature rather than a bug. I would still recommend using this template only when completely necessary and not over use it. We need to give preference to internal links always.  --Etenne (talk) 03:24, 13 April 2015 (UTC)

I propose this template for deletion.

 1. It creates what appear to be internal BoyWiki links that lead to Wikipedia.
 2. This could be a security risk for some people.
 3. This is an all-around bad prictice. --Etenne (talk) 16:09, 12 April 2015 (UTC)
If it is a security risk, then it should be eliminated, of course, even though it may be convenient. What exactly is the security risk?
the security risk is that we are making an external link look like an internal link and some people might not click on that if they knew it leads directly to Wikipedia who well may be collecting ips. At this point, I would suggest treating Wikipedia the same way as a site like Evil Unveiled --Etenne (talk) 16:16, 12 April 2015 (UTC)
I have removed this template pending further discussion. This really does bother me and I have to do what I feel is right for BoyWiki. This template my be OK for other sites but not for us. --Etenne (talk) 16:42, 12 April 2015 (UTC)
If they are collecting IP addresses (and they certainly are, in the case of those editing articles) then - yes, it is a big security risk. Can we have a "dereffer" like BoyChat does when people click on links there? Does that "dereffer" strip the users IP address when they access Wikipedia?
Oh, do I have to go back and manually edit those W links out?

OK - here's what should be easy to do - make a template that detects Wikipedia links in the "See also" area, and automatically puts a warning about the links to Wikipedia being a risk and about the bias, etc.

OK, go ahead :)--Etenne (talk) 19:56, 12 April 2015 (UTC)
Why do you have wikipedia: in the interwiki table if you don't want to have external links that resemble regular wikilinks? For that matter, why do you have anything in the interwiki table? Lysander (talk) 02:48, 13 April 2015 (UTC)

Solving the problem

Just replace the content of the page with:

{}|WIKI}} {{{2|{}}}}

See how Template:Wikipedia, which is transcluded at User:Lysander/Test, works. You get a link to Wikipedia that looks like an external link. The downside is that nofollow will presumably be applied to it, but you may consider that a feature rather than a bug. Lysander (talk) 02:52, 13 April 2015 (UTC)

OK, we can give it a try. I have unprotected this page. --Etenne (talk) 03:02, 13 April 2015 (UTC)

I would still recommend using this template only when completely necessary and not over use it. We need to give preference to internal links always. --Etenne (talk) 03:24, 13 April 2015 (UTC)
