Christopher Henry "Chris" Smith (born March 4, 1953) is the U.S. Representative for New Jersey's 4th congressional district, serving since 1981. He is a member of the Republican Party. The district is based in Trenton and includes large portions of central New Jersey.
Smith has introduced a number of bills attempting to restrict the international travel of convicted sex offenders. These included a 2013 bill authorizing the Secretary of State to "limit to one year or such period of time as the Secretary of State shall determine appropriate the period of validity of a passport issued to a sex offender"[1] (this bill passed the House but not the Senate)[2] and the International Megan's Law, which passed the House in 2010 and 2014, but has never passed the Senate.
