BoyWiki Dictionary: Slippage (dictionary) |
n
Slippage (from the verb "to slip") occurs when a word or phrase is given newer, broader meanings--usually for political purposes--and often by feminists, other moral crusaders, politicians, etc., to the point where the meaning of the transformed word or expression no longer may be objectively useful and/or valid. |
Many words relating to the topic of child sexuality have undergone great "slippage" since the moral panic over (the supposed) "harms" to young people who are involved in adult/child or adult/young person sexual relationships began in the mid-1970s. Examples of words or expressions which have undergone "slippage" are:
- sex
- sexual
- rape
- abuse
- sexual abuse
- exploitation
- trauma
- grooming
- denial
- predator
- pedophile
- high risk
- victim
- perpetrator
- prostitution
- trafficking
- pornography
- nudity
- inappropriate
- harmful
