Álvaro de Luna

Fifteenth-century Spanish politician, linked romantically with the homosexual king Juan II. They shared a bedroom for many years, starting when the king was a small boy (and Álvaro an adult). This was known to contemporaries (it could hardly have been kept secret), though contemporaries' concern was with his influence, through the king, on politics, not what they did with their genitals. Publicly beheaded in 1453 at the instigation of the king's wife, the mother of Queen Isabella the Catholic (the one who expelled the Jews from Spain, not her husband Ferdinand).

Subject of plays by the seventeeth-century homosexual playwright Tirso de Molina. Modern historians view Luna quite positively (what he did for the country).
