Ronald Gold is a psychiatrist who argued in 1973 that even if the overwhelming majority of contemporary homosexuals would turn out to be mentally ill, then the question would be whether they are so because of some intrinsic or inherent pathology, as psychoanalysts maintained, or because of the oppressive power of a homophobic society. He was killed along with Nicole Brown Simpson in 1994 at her Brentwood, Los Angeles home, leading to the criminal investigation and arrest of former American NFL player turned actor O. J. Simpson.
